Custom data dashboards, live on your own data and APIs

I build custom data dashboards that pull straight from the tools your business already runs on, so the numbers refresh on their own instead of in someone's spreadsheet. Your CRM, accounting package, webshop or any system with an API feeds one page your team can open on a laptop, a phone or a screen on the wall. Viewers don't need a Power BI licence unless you want one.

Sound familiar?

Stale by the time it's read

Someone pulls figures from three or four tools into a spreadsheet every week, and by the time it's compiled the numbers are already a few days old.

A licence for every viewer

We want the whole team, or our clients, to see the numbers without paying for a BI seat per person.

The data is stuck behind an API

Our platform has an API, but nobody in-house has time to connect it to something people can actually read.

What you get

A starting point, never a fixed package: describe how you want it and I build it to match.

Connections to your sourcesAPIs, databases, Google Sheets or scheduled exports, connected and running on a timer. I handle authentication, paging and rate limits.
A data layer that keeps historyData lands in a small Postgres database, so you can compare this week with the same week last year, which most APIs can't do on their own.
The dashboard itselfA fast web dashboard built around the handful of numbers you decide on, with charts, filters and drill-downs only where they help.
Refresh on your scheduleEvery few minutes, hourly or nightly, depending on what the source allows and what the decision needs.
Access that fits the audienceA shared link, a password, or individual logins with roles, so a client only ever sees their own data.
Failure alerts and notesIf a feed stops or returns something odd, you get an email. You also get a short document listing every source and metric.

Real time reporting or scheduled refresh: what you actually need

Most teams that ask for real time reporting need data that is fresh when someone looks at it, which is a different thing. A warehouse screen showing open orders may need updates every minute. A sales overview read at the Monday meeting is fine with an hourly refresh. True streaming costs more to build and to run, and many APIs cap how often you can call them anyway, so I match the refresh rate to the decision the dashboard supports.

I'll tell you plainly when a nightly refresh is enough. It keeps the build cheaper and leaves fewer moving parts.

A custom data dashboard instead of another software subscription

Data dashboard software is a fine choice when its connectors cover your tools and its pricing per seat suits you. It gets awkward when you want to share numbers with clients, suppliers or a whole shop floor, or when the one metric you care about needs data the tool can't reach. A custom dashboard is often simpler then: viewers open a link, nobody needs a seat, and the data visualization dashboard can match your brand instead of looking like someone else's product.

The stack is standard and it's yours. A Postgres database, a small scheduled job that fetches the data, and a web front end on Vercel or your own server. You own the code and the data, and there is no subscription to me. I run the same kind of setup for Intrinsiqq, a stock analysis platform I designed, built and run myself, where scheduled jobs pull from outside providers every day and have to keep going when one of them fails. None of its data or code goes into client work; what carries over is the experience of keeping such jobs running.

Live dashboards that keep working when an API changes

A dashboard fed by APIs tends to break quietly. A token expires, a provider renames a field, a rate limit kicks in at month end. I build checks for each of these. If a feed fails, the dashboard shows when it was last updated instead of presenting old numbers as new ones, and you get an alert.

How it works

1

Tell me what you want to see

Describe it in your own words, sketch it on paper, or send a screenshot of a dashboard you like. A call or a written brief both work.

2

Scope and fixed quote

I reply with what I'll build, the price and a delivery date. Once you agree, I sign an NDA if you want one and we set up read-only access.

3

Build with early previews

You see a working version on your real data early on and ask for changes. US clients often send feedback in the evening and wake up to the next version.

4

Launch and handover

The dashboard goes live on your domain, with documentation. A Care plan can keep it running afterwards.

Pricing

from €600

The starting price covers one dashboard on one or two data sources; the number of sources, how often the data must refresh and whether you need logins with roles decide the final quote.

  • A fixed quote before any work starts, no hourly surprises
  • Built to your wishes: tell me exactly how you want it
  • Optional care plan afterwards to keep it running

Data dashboard: questions answered

Anything else? Ask me directly, I reply within a few hours on working days.

How much does a custom data dashboard cost?

A custom data dashboard starts at €600 for one dashboard on one or two data sources. The price rises with the number of sources, how awkward each API is, how often the data has to refresh and whether you need individual logins. You get a fixed quote before any work starts, so the number doesn't move halfway through. For small teams, hosting usually fits on free or low-cost plans.

Should we buy data dashboard software or have a dashboard built?

Buy data dashboard software if its built-in connectors cover your tools and the price per viewer is acceptable. Have a data dashboard built when you need to share it with many people or with clients, when your sources are unusual, or when you want to own the code. I'll look at your tools first and tell you honestly if an off-the-shelf product would do the job.

What is real time reporting?

Real time reporting means the figures update on their own as new data arrives, without anyone exporting or pasting numbers. In practice the refresh can be anything from a few seconds to an hour. For most business decisions, updates every few minutes or every hour are plenty, and they're cheaper to build and run than true streaming. I'll recommend the slowest refresh that still answers your question.

Which data sources can you connect?

I can connect anything with an API, a database, or a file that lands somewhere predictable. Common ones are CRMs such as HubSpot, accounting packages, Shopify and other webshops, Google Sheets, SQL databases and in-house systems. If a tool has no API, a scheduled export to email or cloud storage often works. Send me your list of tools and I'll tell you which are simple and which need a workaround.

Can you build it exactly the way we want?

Yes, as closely as your data allows. Treat this page as a starting point, not a fixed package. Describe what you want in your own words, or send a sketch or a screenshot of a dashboard you like, and I'll match the layout, the metrics and your branding to it. If something can't be done with your data, I'll say so before quoting and suggest the nearest option.

How do you handle our data and GDPR?

I'm based in the Netherlands, so GDPR applies to how I handle your data by default. An NDA and a data processing agreement are available on request, I use read-only access wherever I can, and the database can be hosted in EU regions where the provider offers them. Clients in the US get the same handling, and you can revoke my access when the project ends.

How long does a live dashboard take to build?

It depends mostly on how many sources you have and how clean they are, and your quote includes a delivery date so you know before you commit. A single dashboard on one well-documented API is the quick end. Several sources, custom logins or messy historical data take longer. I work async, so you send feedback when it suits you and I pick it up without waiting for a meeting.
